FYI, those of you with square burners will not like this one. It is not stable because of the design, which is clearly meant for round burners.

this is the second raclette purchased. first one, unanamed, too slow and food not crisp enough. this one, however, heats up fast, cooks the food crisp and is very roomy. bottom takes a small fry pan. have made veggie burger with english muffin, topped with coleslaw which came out great. also made veggie soy chicken cutlet dipped in egg white and coated with panko crumbs and italian seasoning. came out crisp and juicy. so it's great if you're into occasional meatless meals and wondering how to cook them so they don't taste too "nerdy" this is the way to go.

Black & Decker CTO4400B Perfect Broil Large-Capacity Countertop Convection Oven Review

Black and Decker CTO4400B Perfect Broil Large-Capacity Countertop Convection Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've had B&D toaster ovens in the past and they've always held up well, so when it came for a new one I mostly dismissed the negative comments by others and purchsed this model. Well - unfortunately the negatives reviews are correct. Toast made on the bottom shelf ends up burnt where directly above the heating element, and untoasted elsewhere. But far worse was the rude awakening I received on the 2 month anniversary of my purchase. My attempt to toast a bagel appeared more like a 4th of July celebration when the unit completely shorted, providing me with a nice light show. And not that I'd have any inclination to use it again but it's now dead.
I tried to contact the B&D service number provided with the manual and lo and behold the documented late and weekend hours are no longer valid, so I guess I'll now be spending my work day negotiating for a new unit as opposed to someone else's "repaired" unit. If they're this bad when new I can't imagine what a refurb would be like. And I can't imagine what I'll be paying in shipping charges. BE FOREWARNED!

Perfect as a second oven or as an energy-efficient alternative to turning on the full-size oven, this countertop appliance offers a large capacity with an extra-deep curved interior that can fit a 12-inch pizza or a casserole. Use the oven for convection baking (a fan circulates the heat), as well as broiling, toasting, and keeping foods warm until they're ready to be served. The unit features a quartz heating element and 1500 watts of power to ensure fast, professional results, plus it comes with a reversible chrome-plated broiling rack with upper and lower rack slots for added versatility. Three user-friendly control knobs make the oven simple to operate. The top knob adjusts the temperature up to 450 degrees F, the middle knob selects the function (convection bake, broil, toast, or keep warm), and the bottom knob allows for setting the timer up to 60 minutes or choosing continuous "on", as well as selecting the shade setting when toasting bread or bagels. Other highlights include a Perfect Broil system that maintains the set temperature, a see-through glass door, a convenient "ready" signal bell, a nonstick interior, and a slide-out crumb tray for quick cleanup. A baking pan comes included. The sleek-looking toaster oven measures approximately 20 by 16-2/7 by 12-3/5 inches.

Black & Decker CTO4500S 6-Slice CounterTop Convection Oven with Pizza Bump, Stainless Steel Review

Black and Decker CTO4500S 6-Slice CounterTop Convection Oven with Pizza Bump, Stainless Steel
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
We bought this toaster about two months ago, after much research. Our old one was a simple, cheap one from Sunbeam, which lasted about ten years until the lever for toast broke.
I never really wanted a "convection" toaster, but I decided to give it a try because I thought it might save energy when baking. It actually does a very fast job at that, much more efficient than the regular oven we used before.
I used the broiler just once so far and it works well.
Toast is very good: crunchy on the outside, moist inside (but that depends on taste). One gripe is with the knobs, which are hard to grab. The design of the knob is especially annoying in the timer, because it just sort of slides to the desired time, there's no way of precisely selecting the position, like a good stereo knob would. We haven't quite found the best spot on the timer for the perfect toast, I'm having to rely on visual clues and often just take the toast out before the timer rings.
The tray is easy to clean and slides out conveniently.
The hooks on the door hinges that make the rack slide out make it difficult to close the door completely - we decided to fold ours in and not use them, so the door closes correctly.
Be diligent when shopping for this item, prices vary widely from place to place and you may overpay.
*P.S.: after about 15 months of using this toaster, we decided to purchase a simple toaster for bread slices and use the B&D as a small oven for other dishes. The bread toaster is faster and the results more reliable. As an oven, the B&D does a great job.

Maxi-Matic ETO-730SS Elite Platinum 20-Liter 1500-Watt Convection Toaster Oven, Stainless Review

Maxi-Matic ETO-730SS Elite Platinum 20-Liter 1500-Watt Convection Toaster Oven, Stainless
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This "convection" toaster oven has a fan with all the power and focus of a 1 year old blowing out his birthday candle. Said fan is quite effective at rattling the flimsy (like the rest of the toaster) crumb tray, resulting in a quite annoying and loud rattle anytime the unit is set to convection. The fan also happens to blow directly along where there are no heating elements, thus what little air it manages to blow in from outside serves quite effectively to not heat whatever you're trying to heat. I guess they didn't bother to hire an engineer in designing this thing as to be effective at convecting, the fan really needed to blow across a heated element to then blow hot air over the food. C'mon guys, I hear there are unemployed engineers looking for jobs, you couldn't find one?
What is good about it is that the inside is aluminum, which is better than if it were a teflon coated material from a health standpoint. Why didn't they make the inside stainless? Probably the same reason they had it built in China from the thinnest gauge sheet they could get away with, it's cheaper.
This is the first item I've ever returned to Amazon, it was that bad.
Why did I give it two stars? Because it heats things so I guess it fulfills its basic functionality. It is also not ugly so I guess if you want an appliance that you don't need to use or are just dressing a set for a commercial or something, this would be a good prop.
To be fair, the part below applies to most toasters of this type:
It, like many others in its class also only has two heating rods beneath the food thus if you are trying to toast bread you will end up with bread toasted on the edges and only marginally so in the middle. Continuing with the bread, because of the wide separation between the upper heating elements and the bread, your bread will likely burn on the bottom and be slightly golden on the top. Thus if you want to toast bread evenly, you will need to babysit it and turn it over by hand a number of times during the toasting process, good luck doing this without burning your hand.

Corelle Livingware Winter Frost 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4 Review

Corelle Livingware Winter Frost 16-Piece Dinnerware Set, Service for 4
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
It says a lot about a product like this when it's been continuously available since 1970. I've owned Corelle for most of the past 30 years. I recently bought a 17-piece set from Wal-Mart (same as this + a 1-quart serving bowl) for about $24 to replace some Corelle pieces that didn't match my Winter Frost pieces and to have more place settings. The mugs are cheap stoneware made in Thailand, not Corelle. They don't quite match the Corelle and they're going to the Goodwill along with the mismatched plates and bowls, but it was still a good deal for the rest of the set.
I love Corelle. All Corelle looks as if it was stamped out of a sheet of white glass, which is a result of the way it's made. There are no "base rings" or loop handles (which is why there have never been any Corelle mugs). The design makes Corelle very easy to wash and dry. They're very thin, and they stack with virtually no extra space in between them so they use remarkably little cubbard space. A stack of ten dinner plates is only 2" high. Try that with those heavy stoneware plates that chip every time two of them bang together. They're microwave- and oven-safe (don't use on the stove or under the broiler). And they're still made in the US.
It's as if Corelle was invented for large families with lots of kids. It's durable, so the kids won't be breaking it very easily (although it will break on ceramic tile or the concrete if the kids drop it while playing outside ;-). Second, you can easily put 8, 12, or even 16 place settings in any cabinet. If you have kids, you know why that's a good thing. Every time kids eat anything they have to use a clean dish, and they snack a lot, so they go through clean dishes at a frightening pace. With Corelle you can have a big supply of dishes without breaking the bank or using a lot of cabinet space.
Another nice thing about Corelle is that you can use the plates to cover the bowls. The small plates that come in this set are the same diameter as the cereal bowls in this set. The 8.5" luncheon plates (sold separately) are the same diameter as the 1-quart serving bowls and the pasta bowls. The dinner plates in this set are the same diameter as the 2-quart serving bowls and the 9" deep dish pie plate (which makes a fabulous pasta bowl).
The Winter Frost White looks simple, clean, and never goes out of style. Really, after using Corelle for nearly 30 years I don't have even a nit to pick with it. Get a bunch of it and enjoy the best designed dishes ever made. With any luck you'll still have them in 20 or 30 years, and don't be surprised if they still look new after that all time, especially if you go over them with Bon Ami once or twice a year.

I bought two of these pans at about the same price at Wegman's roughly 2 weeks ago and couldn't be more pleased with the results! These pans are quite sturdy and are a perfect fit for my smaller than average wall oven. The first thing I used the pans for was actually cooking bacon. Bacon in the oven cooks just as nicely as on the stove only without the splattering mess and the slices stay FLAT! These pans worked out well and I can't wait to use them for other cooking!

Waring Pro WTO150 4-Slice Toaster Oven with Built-In 2-Slice Toaster Review

Waring Pro WTO150 4-Slice Toaster Oven with Built-In 2-Slice Toaster
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've done a ridiculous amount of research on toaster ovens, trying to find a better quality one that does not have a nonstick coating (which releases poisonous gas when heated) on the interior of the oven or on the bake pans. I was very happy to find that the Waring model is nonstick-free. (For those who care, the interior is aluminized steel.) I've had the toaster oven for only a week, but so far it works very well. It has a nice solid, industrial feel to it - nothing feels cheap. The dimensions are actually 19" wide,11" deep, 9" tall - the measurements given in the description are way wrong. My husband and I really like the separate toaster slots on top and use them all the time. The interior of the oven is roomy - enough to fit 4 or 5 baked potatoes or 4 slices of traditional-size bread or 2 slices of oversize sandwich bread. I've used it to bake potatoes, broil bacon, brown a chicken and make toast - everything came out fine. The only complaints I have are really just annoyances. First, you can't use the oven without setting the timer, which I guess is a safety feature, because when the timer goes off the power shuts off. But this means if you want to cook something for a couple hours you need to be on the ball and reset the timer to continue baking. I rarely use it for more than 30 minutes so this is not a real problem for me. Second, the rack and bake pans are a pretty tight fit and when I need to change their position it takes a few seconds to line them up right - once I do they go in smoothly. But I wonder if this will be more of a problem in the future when everything gets a bit sticky and warped. I guess I'm skeptical about toaster ovens after reading so many terrible reviews of different brands and models, but I'm happy so far. I hope this one lasts 15 years like my Black & Decker that just gave out.
5/6/10 Two months later, and we have a small problem. The toaster lever won't stay down anymore if the toast 'doneness' knob isn't turned on just before I try toasting (in other words, I can't just leave it on and set to the shade I want). I'll leave my 4-star rating for now, because it has worked consistently if I start from the off position, then turn the knob on, then toast. But I didn't need to do this before. The oven still works fine and I've had no trouble with slowness, as reported by others. If a cookie recipe says 350 for 9 minutes, that's how long it takes with this oven.

Perfect as a second oven or as an energy-efficient alternative to turning on the full-size oven, this countertop appliance offers a large 0.45-cubic-foot capacity that can accommodate up to four slices of bread at a time. Its user-friendly control panel consists of three knobs. The top knob controls the function--choose from bake, broil, or toast; the middle knob adjusts the temperature up to 450 degrees F; and the bottom knob allows for setting the timer up to 30 minutes, as well as selecting the shade setting when toasting bread. Best of all, the toaster oven features a built-in two-slice toaster, which makes it possible to bake, broil, or toast in the oven while simultaneously toasting bagels, bread, English muffins, frozen waffles, and other favorites in the toaster. The toaster offers a simple lowering lever, its own light to dark shade settings with a "cancel" option, and a "bagel" button for warming the outside while toasting the cut side of bagels. Other highlights include 1500 watts of power, an "on" indicator light, a see-through oven door to monitor the cooking progress, and brushed stainless-steel housing for an attractive addition to any kitchen counter. A broiling pan and drip tray come included. The toaster oven and toaster measures approximately 13-1/5 by 30-1/5 by 9 inches.

Sanyo SK-CV8S Digital Convection 6-Slice Toaster Oven Review

Sanyo SK-CV8S Digital Convection 6-Slice Toaster Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Sanyo SK-CV8S Digital Convection 6-Slice Toaster Oven
At exactly the the three-month mark since purchase, I have to report this is NOT a well-made unit. I'd had trouble with it over the last week, and determined yesterday that the cause was total failure of the lower heating elements. Doesn't matter if I get it repaired or replaced, or I don't. Nothing should fail so totally, so fast. I've retracted my earlier review and dropped this to One Star. My apologies to anyone who relied on this review and purchased this product. See below for all the Good Things I had to say about it and now regret publishing.
================================================================================
I've had this oven for six weeks now. When I purchased it, no one had reviewed it yet, so it was a minor gamble (a friend had an earlier Sanyo 4-slice convection toaster oven, and had nothing but good things to say about it.) In a solo household, there's little need for six or even four slices of toast, but I was looking more for oven replacement than toasting. Still, I like toast, and when you buy a "toaster oven", you know it's going to do some things well, and others not so well. Note: although the manufacturer notes the Temperature Selection ranges from 140°-500°, the only setting which allows for 500° is the Broil setting.
Toast: The Sanyo does best producing toast from thick, soft breads, turned once during toasting; for me, at least, this is a minor inconvenience. The best result was with Arnold's Cinnabon Bread. Rye bread comes out either hot and pale or light brown and totally crunchy; I find that English muffins need a quick broil after their initial toasting. Did I mention I like a nice brown on my toast and especially on English muffins? It does a pretty good job on toasting bagels, although again, if you're fond of brown, a quick top broil might be in order. Note: In no case did I toast more than two pieces of anything; your toasting experience may vary significantly from mine.
Baking: The Sanyo excels at this, with one minor "miss". So far, I've made 'from the can' biscuits (great results); 'from scratch' chocolate chip cookies (quite good, no burnt bottoms); frozen pizza (the built-in pizza mode does a very good job with that, and is also good for reheating pizzeria pie slices); baked potato (no need to turn it over); two-crust apple pie, which came out just fine, although I second-guessed the manufacturer's placement for baking and had to adjust to get the top to brown (note: Believe their placements); and finally, pound cake loaf. The pound cake loaf was the "miss". The cake certainly baked well enough, but due to the location of the heating elements, the side of the loaf facing the glass never got any color. If you can put up with a partly 'blonde' pound cake, no problem. I should mention that I used a Pyrex loaf pan, not metal. Better results might be obtained with a dark metal pan; or, perhaps I should have pushed the pan further back in the oven.
I haven't tried any casseroles, meat loaves, or chickens in it yet, and I haven't used the convection bake, but that will come next. Given the performance so far, I have no reason to expect any problems.
Pros: with six different positions for the baking rack, you have all the control you can want, and the baking pan and pizza pan are great in use. The pizza pan has a very slight lip, so it's also useful under fruit pies to catch any drips. Removing the crumb tray is simple and it is easy to clean, as is the inside of the oven. Yes, it gets hot, but not dangerously so (unless you have cats or small children around, in which case the usual cautions about stoves and ovens apply here.) Caution: Nothing should be stored or even placed directly on top of the oven, whether in use or not; the surface could be marred.
Cons: The broiling pan is quite flimsy and I doubt it will ever lay flat in use.
Bottom line: Read the manual (it's full of helpful details on rack placement and how to use the various features) and you'll have few if any problems with this unit.

Black & Decker CTO7100B Toast-R-Oven Digital Rotisserie Convection Oven Review

Black and Decker CTO7100B Toast-R-Oven Digital Rotisserie Convection Oven
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
This B&D oven makes outstanding rotisserie meats and is a big leap in value over a traditional toaster oven, with one significant drawback: it's a very mediocre toaster. In fairness, nowhere on the packaging does this product say "toaster" -- it's simply described as a convection rotisserie oven. But if you're considering an upgrade over a standard toaster oven like I was, you're probably hoping for the best of all worlds: rotisserie, convection oven, and toaster. It nails the first two, but is merely acceptable on the third.
Rotisserie: It takes a few tries to get a feel for the timing, but once you do, you get really outstanding roasts and restaurant-quality rotisserie chicken. The rotisserie keeps juices circulating inside, so the meat doesn't dry out like when you bake it the standard way. Some have noted that it isn't really big enough for chicken, and it can be a squeeze. But if you tie the legs with cooking twine (which you should do anyway, to prevent burning), you can cook a 4-1/2 to 5 pound bird, and anything smaller is easy (the manual suggests 3-1/2 as a limit, but you can push that a bit). Pork and beef roasts are ridiculously easy -- just stab it through with the skewer and put it in -- and absolutely delicious. I'm surprised at those who say the rotisserie isn't worth it, because to me, it's the best thing about this device. Well worth the upgrade over a non-rotisserie convection oven.
Convection oven: If you're not interested in the rotisserie, you can get a good non-rotisserie convection oven for $30-$40 less. That's still $30-$40 more than a standard toaster oven, but it's worth it. A standard toaster oven isn't really for baking. It's good for reheating or melting cheese on something, but that's about it. A good convection oven like this one can be used for anything you do in a normal oven. Lasagnas (in a 9x9 pan), breads, pizzas (up to 12-inch), desserts, etc. -- all of these can be done here because the oven regulates its temperature reliably. Furthermore, the smaller size and the convection fan (which circulates the air to regulate temperature and speed cooking slightly) mean less energy. Why use a giant oven to cook a small dish? Pre-heating is quicker, cooking times are shorter, and the food is just as good. The broiler also works well.
Toaster: Again, B&D doesn't promote this as a toaster, though it does have a toaster setting. It toasts pretty evenly (no worse than a standard toaster oven on that front), but the larger size of the oven (compared to a toaster) means it takes a long time, and the toast tends to dry out. You can tinker with the settings a bit, and if you position the rack close to the heating element, it turns out fine, but expect it to take a few minutes longer than a normal toaster or toaster oven. This may also mean that you're giving back some of the energy you save by using it as an oven.
Two other drawbacks to be aware of: (1) it takes a fair amount of cabinet space, since it is a few inches wider, deeper, and taller than most toaster ovens, and (2) the glass on the front is not double-layered, and thus gets very hot -- be careful if you're using it with small children around.
Beyond that, this is a solid product. After six months of use, I'm happy I bought it, and am really glad to have another way to cook outstanding meat during the winter months when it's too cold to grill.

Wilton Chocolate Pro Electric Melting Pot Review

Wilton Chocolate Pro Electric Melting Pot
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
Some time ago, I worked as a pastry chef/candy maker using a very expensive chocolate melter/temperer as one of my equipment staples. I have melted and dipped more chocolate than you could shake a candy box at.
I took a chance and picked up one of these locally (Wilton Chocolate Melter Deluxe) with a melting/warm/off switch. There are no exact temperature controls on this model, no recipes, but the instructions are pretty straight forward. The worst enemy of chocolate is water, which they casually mention in the instruction phamphlet. I'd like to pass along that even just a tiny sputter of water will cause beautiful, satiny melted chocolate to seize up with no recovery at all possible. So if you want to dip fresh fruit, it absolutely must be 100% dry or your chocolate will harden in seconds. Don't even chance a strawberry hull (the green part) being the least bit wet because even just the smallest droplet of water is all it takes to ruin a whole batch of chocolate.
I found the Wilton to melt the chocolate quickly with continual gentle and slow stirring like an expensive chocolate temperer does, using a wooden paddle-like spoon and NOT metal. After all was smoothly melted (I use only organic non-GMO chocolate) and the control was switched onto "warm", the temperature was held well. Again, stirring gently and frequently helps maintain even temperatures throughout your chocolate mixture which is important in keeping your dipping temperature consistent. I dipped over 70 pieces with just 8 oz. of chocolate the first time out with great results.
Another suggestion to help keep "bloom" at bay (the white streaks that can appear on dark and milk chocolates that does not effect flavor) is to set your dipped chocolates away from any air movement. No open windows and out of human traffic where people walk by continually. Even a little bit of air movement can turn a whole batch of newly dipped chocolates into a white bloomin' mess. This is caused by rapid temperature change and/or improper tempering. This unit is not a temperer, but gentle handling can still give good results.
I'm looking forward to making lots of chocolates for the holidays and this little melter gets my whole-hearted vote! Chocolate is an experience and worth not giving up on. If you don't have great success the first time out, try smaller batches and you will get the feel for it. This little melter is a boon to the home chocolatier novice.

Simply add chocolate or Candy Melts brand confectionery coating and slide the power switch from "off" to "melt" for a creamy consistency in 10 minutes or less--no microwave or double-boiler needed. It also offers "warm" mode to keep contents at the right consistency without overheating. Mold lollipops and dipped-center candies like a pro; serve chocolate-dipped strawberries or elegant soiree-style fondue; create flavored chocolate sauces for drizzling over ice cream or silky ganache glaze to pour over cakes--the creative options are endless. Thoughtfully designed, the melting pot provides a spout for drip-free pouring, an "on" indicator light, a stay-cool base for safety, and non-skid feet that keep the unit steady on the counter. When finished, dispose of any unused chocolate or confectionery coating while it's still melted and fluid, then allow the melting pot to cool completely and wash by hand in warm, soapy water. The base of the unit can be wiped clean and both the melting pot and base should be dried thoroughly before storing. The UL-listed melting pot measures approximately 5-1/2 by 10-1/2 by 8-2/5 inches.

Oster 6081 Countertop Toaster Oven
Average Reviews:

Even after reading some of the poor reviews I decided to try the toaster on my own. In general I agree with the fact that the glass that faces the back of the handle could've been much better insulated or protected, however, as long as we keep in mind that this is an oven and should be handled with care I don't believe this is too much of a problem. The oven itself is a great machine. It heats up items thoroughly, the knobs seem to be of a good quality, it looks great in our kitchen, the convection fan is not loud, it is very roomy, and the price is not very high. As far as price goes, I reviewed some models of other brands that were in the $125.00 range which were, in my opinion, very comparable to this one in features, looks etc. I would definitely recommend this item to anyone.

Char-Broil 4984722 Premium Electric Rotisserie Review

Char-Broil 4984722 Premium Electric Rotisserie

I received this as a gift and have used it about four times so far. It was OK to install, but interestingly enough the brackets don't fit my Thermos grill all that well. Surprising since both the grill and rotisserie are made by Charbroil.
The motor mount won't adjust quite enough to allow the spit to turn without hitting the lid of the grill. I compensated by slightly propping the lid open ~1\4". You may have to remove the grills themselves to allow the food to turn freely.
I was able to cook two chickens at the same time without much difficulty, but it would be nice if you could buy a second set of prongs to better hold multiple pieces. Overall, for the money, it's a great tool and the resulting food turned out delicious everytime.

Emile Henry Flame Top 12 Inch Round Brazier, Figue Review

Emile Henry Flame Top 12 Inch Round Brazier, Figue

This is so much fun to cook with. It cooks diced bacon beautifully, onions become translucent without worry of burnt or crispy edges, mushrooms brown perfectly, meat browns to a perfect, even golden crust... I've never seen meat brown so beautifully before - I'm really excited about this brasier and can't wait to purchase another piece of this line (I already have the 10x10 baking dish and it's wonderful, as well!). Oh, and deglazing was effortless with some wine and stock...I'm usually scraping away in my old "traditional" dutch oven (iron core, I believe?). I'm so happy with this purchase!

Dualit 89100 1500-Watt Stainless-Steel Mini Oven Review

Dualit 89100 1500-Watt Stainless-Steel Mini Oven
Average Reviews:

This is a quality countertop oven. It bakes with or without convection. The convection function is incredibly quiet. The racks don't fall out or down onto the burners when baking heavy dishes. Even with convection baking, it bakes bread without roasting the top crust. It's large inside with an efficient design that doesn't take up excessive counter space. You can turn it "ON" or use timer to control the turn-off. It's solid and tight construction--obvious quality to the sight or touch. It's only weak point that I have found is that it doesn't actually toast bread on both sides at once. It's superb for baking, roasting, broiling. Even comes with a cookie sheet!
